About the Firm
We are an outstanding law office established by three lawyers who had over a decade each of experience in independent practice of law. We joined forces to increase the depth and range of our resources and create more value for our clients. We work together on a task-force basis on all matters we handle calling upon of counsels with a wide variety of expertise, if need be.
We counsel clients on legal issues generated by their business transactions. Among other things, we assist in the creation of business entities, their licensing, governance, merger, acquisition, restructuring and insolvency. We also provide support in concluding contracts from inception all the way to closing deals. In particular, we help in negotiating, drafting and reviewing contracts in fields such as procurement, franchising, distribution, construction and real estate. Besides, we assist clients navigate the regulatory system of Ethiopia focussing on the financial sector, tax, competition and consumer protection laws.
We represent clients in litigation before courts, administrative and arbitral tribunals.
Law firms are not registered as legal entities in Ethiopia as yet. Hence, lawyers in our office are independently licensed.
Dr. Getachew Assefa
Tigist holds LL.B from Addis Ababa University School of Law. Before her graduation in 2013, she was active in extracurricular activities of the School. She was a member of the team that won the Third National Arbitration Moot, for instance. She started her career, after graduation, by providing legal service at the Access to Justice Project of Addis Ababa University Human Rights Center, where she worked for two years. She then moved to the Ethiopian Lawyers’ Association. She was a Legal Researcher and Socio-Legal Expert for a total of three years at the association. Currently, she is practicing on her own as an attorney at the Federal First Instance Court. She collaborates with GeTS Law in handling cases in her area of expertise
Yenehun Birlie holds LL.B and LL.M degrees from Addis Ababa University and the University of Alabama respectively. He started his career as a graduate assistant at Jimma University. Currently, he is teaching at Addis Ababa University School of Law where he also served as the Associate Dean for Research and Technology Transfer. He regularly teaches courses such as environmental law, human rights law and Administrative law.
He has been involved in legal aid projects since 2011 as a project designer, project coordinator and legal clinic professor. Currently, he is supervising the Widening Access to Justice through Clinical Legal Education in Addis Ababa and its Environs Project, funded by the US State Department.
He has extensive experience representing clients before the Federal Courts of Ethiopia. He collaborates with GeTS Law Office as an of counsel in representing clients and offering advisory service in areas of his particular competence.
